2025-11-27selftests/liveupdate: add userspace API selftestsPasha Tatashin1-0/+1
Introduce a selftest suite for LUO. These tests validate the core userspace-facing API provided by the /dev/liveupdate device and its associated ioctls. The suite covers fundamental device behavior, session management, and the file preservation mechanism using memfd as a test case. This provides regression testing for the LUO uAPI. The following functionality is verified: Device Access: Basic open and close operations on /dev/liveupdate. Enforcement of exclusive device access (verifying EBUSY on a second open). Session Management: Successful creation of sessions with unique names. Failure to create sessions with duplicate names. File Preservation: Preserving a single memfd and verifying its content remains intact post-preservation. Preserving multiple memfds within a single session, each with unique data. A complex scenario involving multiple sessions, each containing a mix of empty and data-filled memfds. Note: This test suite is limited to verifying the pre-kexec functionality of LUO (e.g., session creation, file preservation). The post-kexec restoration of resources is not covered, as the kselftest framework does not currently support orchestrating a reboot and continuing execution in the new kernel. net/lib dependency The selftests 'make clean' does not clean the net/lib because it only processes $(TARGETS) and ignores $(INSTALL_DEP_TARGETS). This leaves compiled objects in net/lib after cleaning, requiring manual cleanup. Include $(INSTALL_DEP_TARGETS) in clean target to ensure net/lib dependency is properly cleaned. We have the logic to include net/lib automatically for net related selftests. However, currently, this logic is only in install target which means only `make install` will have net/lib included. Netfilter: - Rewrite the procfs conntrack table implementation, improving considerably the dump performance. A lot of user-space tools still use this interface. - Implement support for wildcard netdevice in netdev basechain and flowtables. - Integrate conntrack information into nft trace infrastructure. - Export set count and backend name to userspace, for better introspection. BPF: - BPF qdisc support: BPF-qdisc can be implemented with BPF struct_ops programs and can be controlled in similar way to traditional qdiscs using the "tc qdisc" command. - Refactor the UDP socket iterator, addressing long standing issues WRT duplicate hits or missed sockets. Protocols: - Improve TCP receive buffer auto-tuning and increase the default upper bound for the receive buffer; overall this improves the single flow maximum thoughput on 200Gbs link by over 60%. - Add AFS GSSAPI security class to AF_RXRPC; it provides transport security for connections to the AFS fileserver and VL server. - Improve TCP multipath routing, so that the sources address always matches the nexthop device. - Introduce SO_PASSRIGHTS for AF_UNIX, to allow disabling SCM_RIGHTS, and thus preventing DoS caused by passing around problematic FDs. - Retire DCCP socket. DCCP only receives updates for bugs, and major distros disable it by default. Its removal allows for better organisation of TCP fields to reduce the number of cache lines hit in the fast path. - Extend TCP drop-reason support to cover PAWS checks. Driver API: - Reorganize PTP ioctl flag support to require an explicit opt-in for the drivers, avoiding the problem of drivers not rejecting new unsupported flags. - Converted several device drivers to timestamping APIs. - Introduce per-PHY ethtool dump helpers, improving the support for dump operations targeting PHYs. Tests and tooling: - Add support for classic netlink in user space C codegen, so that ynl-c can now read, create and modify links, routes addresses and qdisc layer configuration. - Add ynl sub-types for binary attributes, allowing ynl-c to output known struct instead of raw binary data, clarifying the classic netlink output. - Extend MPTCP selftests to improve the code-coverage. - Add tests for XDP tail adjustment in AF_XDP. Tests for the can subsystem have been in the can-tests repository[1] so far. Start moving the tests to kernel selftests by importing the current tst-filter test. The test is now named test_raw_filter and is substantially updated to be more aligned with the kernel selftests, follow the coding style, and simplify the validation of received CAN frames. We also include documentation of the test design. The test verifies that the single filters on raw CAN sockets work as expected. We intend to import more tests from can-tests and add additional test cases in the future. The goal of moving the CAN selftests into the tree is to align the tests more closely with the kernel, improve testing of CAN in general, and to simplify running the tests automatically in the various kernel CI systems. 2025-04-17testing/selftests: add test tool and scripts for ovpn moduleAntonio Quartulli1-0/+1
The ovpn-cli tool can be compiled and used as selftest for the ovpn kernel module. [NOTE: it depends on libmedtls for decoding base64-encoded keys] ovpn-cli implements the netlink and RTNL APIs and can thus be integrated in any script for more automated testing. Along with the tool, a bunch of scripts are provided that perform basic functionality tests by means of network namespaces. These scripts take part to the kselftest automation. The output of the scripts, which will appear in the kselftest reports, is a list of steps performed by the scripts plus some output coming from the execution of `ping`, `iperf` and `ovpn-cli` itself. In general it is useful only in case of failure, in order to understand which step has failed and why. Please note: since peer sockets are tied to the userspace process that created them (i.e. exiting the process will result in closing the socket), every run of ovpn-cli that created one will go to background and enter pause(), waiting for the signal which will allow it to terminate. Termination is accomplished at the end of each script by issuing a killall command.
