2026-06-04scsi: fcoe: don't recurse on the netdev's ops lockJakub Kicinski2-3/+7
fcoe_link_speed_update() calls __ethtool_get_link_ksettings() on the lport's netdev, which will soon take the dev's ops lock. Some notifier callers already arrive with this lock held. Switch to netif_get_link_ksettings() and adjust the explicit call sites to take the netdev lock explicitly. Within fcoe_device_notification() try to only query the link speed from notifiers which announce link state change (UP / CHANGE), DOWN / GOING_DOWN notifiers are slightly sketchy when it comes to ops locking right now, and the code already special-cases those by maintaining the local link_possible variable. Also take the lock in bnx2fc_net_config(), even though I think that bnx2fc call sites are largely irrelevant since it's not an ops-locked driver. 2026-05-22scsi: fcoe: Reject FIP descriptors with zero fip_dlen in CVL walkerMichael Bommarito1-1/+1
drivers/scsi/fcoe/fcoe_ctlr.c::fcoe_ctlr_recv_clr_vlink() advanced the descriptor cursor by an attacker-supplied fip_dlen without ever requiring dlen >= sizeof(struct fip_desc) in the default branch. The named descriptor cases (FIP_DT_MAC, FIP_DT_NAME, FIP_DT_VN_ID) checked their per-type minimum lengths, but a FIP_DT_NON_CRITICAL descriptor (fip_dtype >= 128, which the standard requires receivers to silently ignore) skipped that check entirely. An unauthenticated L2 peer on the FCoE control VLAN could hang fcoe_ctlr_recv_work on an fcoe, qedf, or bnx2fc initiator indefinitely by emitting one FIP CVL frame whose single descriptor had fip_dtype == FIP_DT_NON_CRITICAL and fip_dlen == 0: the cursor advanced zero bytes per iteration and the loop condition rlen >= sizeof(*desc) stayed true forever, blocking every subsequent FIP frame on that controller. Tighten the outer dlen guard to also reject dlen < sizeof(struct fip_desc), so a malformed descriptor whose length cannot even cover the descriptor header is rejected before the switch. This is the same lower-bound the named cases already apply and is the minimum scope that closes the loop. Fixes: 97c8389d54b9 ("[SCSI] fcoe, libfcoe: Add support for FIP. FCoE discovery and keep-alive.") 2026-02-21Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argumentLinus Torvalds3-3/+3
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' | xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/' to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL argument to just drop that argument. Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered: they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically. For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate conversion. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2026-02-21treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar typesKees Cook4-7/+6
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union object instances: Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...) Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) (where TYPE may also be *VAR) The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning "TYPE *". Signed-off-by: Kees Cook <kees@kernel.org>
2025-11-08scsi: fcoe: Add WQ_PERCPU to alloc_workqueue() usersMarco Crivellari1-1/+1
Currently if a user enqueues a work item using schedule_delayed_work() the used wq is "system_wq" (per-cpu wq) while queue_delayed_work() uses WORK_CPU_UNBOUND (used when a CPU is not specified). The same applies to schedule_work() that is using system_wq and queue_work(), that makes use again of WORK_CPU_UNBOUND. This lack of consistentcy cannot be addressed without refactoring the API. alloc_workqueue() treats all queues as per-CPU by default, while unbound workqueues must opt-in via WQ_UNBOUND. This default is suboptimal: most workloads benefit from unbound queues, allowing the scheduler to place worker threads where they’re needed and reducing noise when CPUs are isolated. Continue the effort to refactor workqueue APIs, which has begun with the change introducing new workqueues and a new alloc_workqueue flag: commit 128ea9f6ccfb ("workqueue: Add system_percpu_wq and system_dfl_wq") commit 930c2ea566af ("workqueue: Add new WQ_PERCPU flag") Adds a new WQ_PERCPU flag to explicitly request alloc_workqueue() to be per-CPU when WQ_UNBOUND has not been specified. With the introduction of the WQ_PERCPU flag (equivalent to !WQ_UNBOUND), any alloc_workqueue() caller that doesn’t explicitly specify WQ_UNBOUND must now use WQ_PERCPU. Once migration is complete, WQ_UNBOUND can be removed and unbound will become the implicit default. 2025-06-09scsi: fcoe: Remove fcoe_select_cpu()Hannes Reinecke1-21/+1
The function fcoe_select_cpu() is just used to distribute incoming skbs which start a new FC command sequence. But the network stack already received (and processed) that skb, and there is a _really_ good chance that all subsequent skbs for this sequence will be handled with the same CPU. So we should just use the CPU on which this skb was allocated on and save ourselves some overhead due to pointless scheduling. 2024-08-22scsi: Expand all create*_workqueue() invocationsBart Van Assche1-4/+4

2024-07-03driver core: have match() callback in struct bus_type take a const *Greg Kroah-Hartman1-1/+1
In the match() callback, the struct device_driver * should not be changed, so change the function callback to be a const *. This is one step of many towards making the driver core safe to have struct device_driver in read-only memory. Because the match() callback is in all busses, all busses are modified to handle this properly. This does entail switching some container_of() calls to container_of_const() to properly handle the constant *. For some busses, like PCI and USB and HV, the const * is cast away in the match callback as those busses do want to modify those structures at this point in time (they have a local lock in the driver structure.) That will have to be changed in the future if they wish to have their struct device * in read-only-memory. Cc: Rafael J. 2023-12-13scsi: fcoe: Use sysfs_match_string() over fcoe_parse_mode()Justin Stitt1-22/+4
Instead of copying @buf into a new buffer and carefully managing its newline/null-terminating status, we can just use sysfs_match_string() as it uses sysfs_streq() internally which handles newline/null-term: | /** | * sysfs_streq - return true if strings are equal, modulo trailing newline | * @s1: one string | * @s2: another string | * | * This routine returns true iff two strings are equal, treating both | * NUL and newline-then-NUL as equivalent string terminations. It's | * geared for use with sysfs input strings, which generally terminate | * with newlines but are compared against values without newlines. | */ | bool sysfs_streq(const char *s1, const char *s2) | ... Then entirely drop the now unused fcoe_parse_mode(), being careful to change if condition from checking for FIP_CONN_TYPE_UNKNOWN to < 0 as sysfs_match_string() can return -EINVAL. Also check explicitly if ctlr->mode is equal to FIP_CONN_TYPE_UNKNOWN -- this is probably preferred to "<=" as the behavior is more obvious while maintaining functionality. To get the compiler not to complain, make fip_conn_type_names const char * const. Perhaps, this should also be done for fcf_state_names. This also removes an instance of strncpy() which helps [1]. 2023-03-23driver core: bus: mark the struct bus_type for sysfs callbacks as constantGreg Kroah-Hartman2-8/+6
struct bus_type should never be modified in a sysfs callback as there is nothing in the structure to modify, and frankly, the structure is almost never used in a sysfs callback, so mark it as constant to allow struct bus_type to be moved to read-only memory. 2022-11-26scsi: fcoe: Fix possible name leak when device_register() failsYang Yingliang1-9/+10
If device_register() returns an error, the name allocated by dev_set_name() needs to be freed. As the comment of device_register() says, one should use put_device() to give up the reference in the error path. Fix this by calling put_device(), then the name can be freed in kobject_cleanup(). The 'fcf' is freed in fcoe_fcf_device_release(), so the kfree() in the error path can be removed. The 'ctlr' is freed in fcoe_ctlr_device_release(), so don't use the error label, just return NULL after calling put_device(). 2022-05-16scsi: fcoe: Use per-CPU API to update per-CPU statisticsSebastian Andrzej Siewior3-44/+24
The per-CPU statistics (struct fc_stats) is updated by getting a stable per-CPU pointer via get_cpu() + per_cpu_ptr() and then performing the increment. This can be optimized by using this_cpu_*() which will do whatever is needed on the architecture to perform the update safe and efficient. The read out of the individual value (fc_get_host_stats()) should be done by using READ_ONCE() instead of a plain-C access. The difference is that READ_ONCE() will always perform a single access while the plain-C access can be split by the compiler into two loads if it appears beneficial. The usage of u64 has the side-effect that it is also 64bit wide on 32bit architectures and the read is always split into two loads. The can lead to strange values if the read happens during an update which alters both 32bit parts of the 64bit value. This can be circumvented by either using a 32bit variables on 32bit architecures or extending the statistics with a sequence counter. Use this_cpu_*() API to update the statistics and READ_ONCE() to read it. 2022-05-16scsi: fcoe: Add a local_lock to fcoe_percpuDavidlohr Bueso1-2/+4
fcoe_get_paged_crc_eof() relies on the caller having preemption disabled to ensure the per-CPU fcoe_percpu context remains valid throughout the call. This is done by either holding spinlocks (such as bnx2fc_global_lock or qedf_global_lock) or the get_cpu() from fcoe_alloc_paged_crc_eof(). This last one breaks PREEMPT_RT semantics as there can be memory allocation and end up sleeping in atomic contexts. Introduce a local_lock_t to struct fcoe_percpu that will keep the non-RT case the same, mapping to preempt_disable/enable, while RT will use a per-CPU spinlock allowing the region to be preemptible but still maintain CPU locality. The other users of fcoe_percpu are already safe in this regard and do not require local_lock()ing. 2022-05-16net: allow gso_max_size to exceed 65536Alexander Duyck1-1/+1
The code for gso_max_size was added originally to allow for debugging and workaround of buggy devices that couldn't support TSO with blocks 64K in size. The original reason for limiting it to 64K was because that was the existing limits of IPv4 and non-jumbogram IPv6 length fields. With the addition of Big TCP we can remove this limit and allow the value to potentially go up to UINT_MAX and instead be limited by the tso_max_size value. So in order to support this we need to go through and clean up the remaining users of the gso_max_size value so that the values will cap at 64K for non-TCPv6 flows. In addition we can clean up the GSO_MAX_SIZE value so that 64K becomes GSO_LEGACY_MAX_SIZE and UINT_MAX will now be the upper limit for GSO_MAX_SIZE. v6: (edumazet) fixed a compile error if CONFIG_IPV6=n, in a new sk_trim_gso_size() helper. netif_set_tso_max_size() caps the requested TSO size with GSO_MAX_SIZE.
