2026-05-05drm/amd/display: Fix type mismatches using guards and explicit castsGaghik Khachatrian1-1/+2
[Why] Address signed/unsigned comparison warnings across dc paths to keep builds warning-clean and improve type safety at comparison boundaries. Most warnings came from signed loop/index temporaries compared against unsigned counters and table sizes, plus a smaller number of mixed signed/unsigned clock, bandwidth, and geometry comparisons. [How] Aligned iterator and temporary variable types with the semantic type of the compared bounds. Used unsigned indices for loops bounded by unsigned counters and table sizes, while retaining signed types where values are semantically signed or participate in arithmetic that may legitimately go negative. Where mixed signed/unsigned comparisons are intentional, applied explicit boundary casts or guarded comparisons instead of broad type changes. No functional behavior changes are intended; this is a warning-resolution and type-alignment cleanup. 2026-03-24drm/amd/display: add a no_hpd link_encoder_funcs variantAlex Deucher1-2/+62
For link encoders without HPD (analog or LVDS), add a link_encoder_funcs structure with no hpd enable callbacks. The enable and disable hpd callbacks are currently not used outside of a special case in debugfs which checks if the hpd is valid before using it, but this will protect us if they ever are. 2026-02-19drm/amd/display: Enable DAC in DCE link encoderTimur Kristóf1-0/+18
Ensure that the DAC output is enabled at the correct time by moving it to the DCE link encoder similarly to how digital outputs are enabled. This also removes the call to DAC1EncoderControl from the DCE HWSS, which always felt like it was a hacky solution. 2026-02-19drm/amd/display: Initialize DAC in DCE link encoder using VBIOSTimur Kristóf1-0/+10
The VBIOS DAC1EncoderControl() function can initialize the DAC, by writing board-specific values to certain registers. Call this at link encoder hardware initialization time similarly to how the equivalent UNIPHYTransmitterControl initialization is done. This fixes DAC output on the Radeon HD 7790. Also remove the ENCODER_CONTROL_SETUP enum from the dac_encoder_control_prepare_params function which is actually not a supported operation for DAC encoders. 2026-02-19drm/amd/display: Turn off DAC in DCE link encoder using VBIOSTimur Kristóf1-13/+17
Apparently, the VBIOS DAC1EncoderControl function is much more graceful about turning off the DAC. It writes various DAC registers in a specific sequence. Use that instead of just clearing the DAC_ENABLE register. Do this in just the dce110_link_encoder_disable_output function and remove it from the HWSS. 2025-10-28drm/amd/display: Implement DCE analog link encoders (v2)Timur Kristóf1-0/+85
We support two kinds of analog connections: 1. DVI-I, which allows both digital and analog signals: The DC code base only allows 1 encoder per connector, and the preferred engine type is still going to be digital. So, for DVI-I to work, we need to make sure the pre-existing link encoder can also work with analog signals. 1. VGA, which only supports analog signals: For VGA, we need to create a link encoder that only works with the DAC without perturbing any digital transmitter functionality. Since dce110_link_encoder already supports analog DVI-I, just reuse that code for VGA as well. v2: Reduce code churn by reusing same link encoder for VGA and DVI-I. 2019-01-14drm/amd/display: remove sink reference in dc_stream_stateJun Lei1-1/+1
[why] dc_stream_state containing a pointer to sink is poor design. Sink describes the display, and the specifications or capabilities it has. That information is irrelevant for dc_stream_state, which describes hardware state, and is generally used for hardware programming. It could further be argued that dc_sink itself is just a convenience dc provides, and DC should be perfectly capable of programming hardware without any dc_sinks (for example, emulated sinks). [how] Phase 1: Deprecate use of dc_sink pointer in dc_stream. Most references are trivial to remove, but some call sites are risky (such as is_timing_changed) with no obvious logical replacement. These will be removed in follow up change. Add dc_link pointer to dc_stream. This is the typical reason DC really needed sink pointer, and most call sites are replaced with this. DMs also need minor updates, as all 3 DMs leverage stream->sink for some functionality. this is replaced instead by a pointer to private data inside dc_stream_state, which is used by DMs as a quality of life improvment for some key functionality. it allows DMs to set pointers have to their own objects which associate OS objects to dc_stream_states (such as DisplayTarget and amdgpu_dm_connector). Without the private pointer, DMs would be forced to perform a lookup for callbacks. 2017-12-14drm/amd/display: Move wait for hpd ready out from edp power control.Yongqiang Sun1-15/+0
It may take over 200ms for wait hpd ready. To optimize the resume time, we can power on eDP in init_hw, wait for hpd ready when doing link training. also create separate eDP enable function to make sure eDP is powered up before doing and DPCD access, as HPD low will result in DPDC transaction failure. After optimization, setpowerstate 145ms -> 9.8ms, DPMS 387ms -> 18.9ms Signed-off-by: Yongqiang Sun <yongqiang.sun@amd.com> Signed-off-by: Tony Cheng <tony.cheng@amd.com> Reviewed-by: Tony Cheng <Tony.Cheng@amd.com> Acked-by: Harry Wentland <harry.wentland@amd.com> Signed-off-by: Alex Deucher <alexander.deucher@amd.com>

2017-10-21drm/amd/display: Move power control from link encoder to hwsequencerAndrew Jiang1-169/+2
A recent commit moved the backlight control code along with the register defines, but did not move the power control code. This along with remnant fields in the dce110_link_enc_registers struct made it so that the code still compiled, but any attempts to access the LVTMA_PWRSEQ_STATE register led to reading from an address of 0. This patch corrects that. Also, rename blacklight_control to edp_backlight_control (Typo fix).
