This is the exact same thing as the 'alloc_obj()' version, only much smaller because there are a lot fewer users of the *alloc_flex() interface. As with alloc_obj() version, this was done entirely with mindless brute force, using the same script, except using 'flex' in the pattern rather than 'objs*'. This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' | xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/' to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL argument to just drop that argument. Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered: they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically. 2026-02-21treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar typesKees Cook3-13/+12
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union object instances: Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...) Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) All irq_domain_add_*() functions are going away. PowerPC is the only user of irq_domain_add_nomap() and there is no irq_domain_create_nomap() complement. Therefore, to align with the rest of the kernel, rename irq_domain_add_nomap() to irq_domain_create_nomap() and accept a fwnode_handle instead of a device_node. 2025-03-16mm/ioremap: pass pgprot_t to ioremap_prot() instead of unsigned longRyan Roberts1-2/+2
ioremap_prot() currently accepts pgprot_val parameter as an unsigned long, thus implicitly assuming that pgprot_val and pgprot_t could never be bigger than unsigned long. But this assumption soon will not be true on arm64 when using D128 pgtables. In 128 bit page table configuration, unsigned long is 64 bit, but pgprot_t is 128 bit. Passing platform abstracted pgprot_t argument is better as compared to size based data types. Let's change the parameter to directly pass pgprot_t like another similar helper generic_ioremap_prot(). Without this change in place, D128 configuration does not work on arm64 as the top 64 bits gets silently stripped when passing the protection value to this function. 2025-01-25mm/memblock: add memblock_alloc_or_panic interfaceGuo Weikang1-4/+1
Before SLUB initialization, various subsystems used memblock_alloc to allocate memory. In most cases, when memory allocation fails, an immediate panic is required. To simplify this behavior and reduce repetitive checks, introduce `memblock_alloc_or_panic`. This function ensures that memory allocation failures result in a panic automatically, improving code readability and consistency across subsystems that require this behavior. 2024-07-03driver core: have match() callback in struct bus_type take a const *Greg Kroah-Hartman1-2/+2
In the match() callback, the struct device_driver * should not be changed, so change the function callback to be a const *. This is one step of many towards making the driver core safe to have struct device_driver in read-only memory. Because the match() callback is in all busses, all busses are modified to handle this properly. This does entail switching some container_of() calls to container_of_const() to properly handle the constant *. For some busses, like PCI and USB and HV, the const * is cast away in the match callback as those busses do want to modify those structures at this point in time (they have a local lock in the driver structure.) That will have to be changed in the future if they wish to have their struct device * in read-only-memory. Cc: Rafael J. The PS3 hcall assembly code makes ad-hoc stack frames that don't have a back-chain pointer or meet other requirements like minimum frame size. This probably confuses stack unwinders. `strncpy` is deprecated for use on NUL-terminated destination strings [1]. `make_first_field()` should use similar implementation to `make_field()` due to memcpy having more obvious behavior here. The end result yields the same behavior as the previous `strncpy`-based implementation including the NUL-padding. Commit fdacae8a8402 ("powerpc: Activate CONFIG_STRICT_KERNEL_RWX by default") causes ps3_hpte_updateboltedpp() to be called. The correct fix would be to implement updateboltedpp() for PS3, but it's not clear if that's possible. As a stop-gap, change the panic statment in ps3_hpte_updateboltedpp() to a pr_info statement so that bootup can continue.
