2025-11-14ARM: tegra: Enable EXT4 for TegraJon Hunter1-7/+3
After commit d6ace46c82fd ("ext4: remove obsolete EXT3 config options") was added, when using the 'tegra_defconfig' kernel configuration, mounting an MMC device on Tegra20, Tegra30 and Tegra124 boards is failing with "unknown filesystem type 'ext4'". Commit d6ace46c82fd ("ext4: remove obsolete EXT3 config options") removed the obsolete EXT3_CONFIG options, since it had been over a decade since fs/ext3 had been removed. Unfortunately, there were a number of defconfigs that still used CONFIG_EXT3_FS which the cleanup commit didn't fix up. This led to a large number of defconfig test builds to fail. Oops. 2025-03-21arm: defconfig: drop RT_GROUP_SCHED=y from bcm2835/tegra/omap2plusCeleste Liu1-1/+0
Commit 673ce00c5d6c ("ARM: omap2plus_defconfig: Add support for distros with systemd") said it's because of recommendation from systemd. But systemd changed their recommendation later.[1] For cgroup v1, if turned on, and there's any cgroup in the "cpu" hierarchy it needs an RT budget assigned, otherwise the processes in it will not be able to get RT at all. The problem with RT group scheduling is that it requires the budget assigned but there's no way we could assign a default budget, since the values to assign are both upper and lower time limits, are absolute, and need to be sum up to < 1 for each individal cgroup. That means we cannot really come up with values that would work by default in the general case.[2] For cgroup v2, it's almost unusable as well. If it turned on, the cpu controller can only be enabled when all RT processes are in the root cgroup. But it will lose the benefits of cgroup v2 if all RT process were placed in the same cgroup. Red Hat, Gentoo, Arch Linux and Debian all disable it. systemd also doesn't support it. 2023-09-25iommu/tegra-gart: Remove tegra-gartJason Gunthorpe1-1/+0
Thierry says this is not used anymore, and doesn't think it makes sense as an iommu driver. The HW it supports is about 10 years old now and newer HW uses different IOMMU drivers. As this is the only driver with a GART approach, and it doesn't really meet the driver expectations from the IOMMU core, let's just remove it so we don't have to think about how to make it fit in. It has a number of identified problems: - The assignment of iommu_groups doesn't match the HW behavior - It claims to have an UNMANAGED domain but it is really an IDENTITY domain with a translation aperture. This is inconsistent with the core expectation for security sensitive operations - It doesn't implement a SW page table under struct iommu_domain so * It can't accept a map until the domain is attached * It forgets about all maps after the domain is detached * It doesn't clear the HW of maps once the domain is detached (made worse by having the wrong groups) Cc: Thierry Reding <treding@nvidia.com> Cc: Dmitry Osipenko <digetx@gmail.com> Acked-by: Thierry Reding <treding@nvidia.com> Reviewed-by: Lu Baolu <baolu.lu@linux.intel.com> Reviewed-by: Jerry Snitselaar <jsnitsel@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Jason Gunthorpe <jgg@nvidia.com> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/6-v8-81230027b2fa+9d-iommu_all_defdom_jgg@nvidia.com Signed-off-by: Joerg Roedel <jroedel@suse.de>

2023-05-26mm/slab: rename CONFIG_SLAB to CONFIG_SLAB_DEPRECATEDVlastimil Babka1-1/+0
As discussed at LSF/MM [1] [2] and with no objections raised there, deprecate the SLAB allocator. Rename the user-visible option so that users with CONFIG_SLAB=y get a new prompt with explanation during make oldconfig, while make olddefconfig will just switch to SLUB. In all defconfigs with CONFIG_SLAB=y remove the line so those also switch to SLUB. Regressions due to the switch should be reported to linux-mm and slab maintainers. CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO is now implicitly selected if one picks one of the explicit options that could be DEBUG_INFO_DWARF_TOOLCHAIN_DEFAULT, DEBUG_INFO_DWARF4, DEBUG_INFO_DWARF5. This was actually not what I had in mind when I suggested making it a 'choice' statement, but it's too late to change again now, and the Kconfig logic is more sensible in the new form. Change any defconfig file that had CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO enabled but did not pick DWARF4 or DWARF5 explicitly to now pick the toolchain default. 2022-07-22ARM: refresh defconfig filesArnd Bergmann1-9/+9
A lot of Kconfig options have changed over the years, and we tend to not do a blind 'make defconfig' to refresh the files, to ensure we catch options that should not have gone away. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/gregkh/driver-core Pull driver core updates from Greg KH: "Here is the set of "big" driver core patches for 4.16-rc1. The majority of the work here is in the firmware subsystem, with reworks to try to attempt to make the code easier to handle in the long run, but no functional change. There's also some tree-wide sysfs attribute fixups with lots of acks from the various subsystem maintainers, as well as a handful of other normal fixes and changes. And finally, some license cleanups for the driver core and sysfs code. All have been in linux-next for a while with no reported issues" * tag 'driver-core-4.16-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/gregkh/driver-core: (48 commits) device property: Define type of PROPERTY_ENRTY_*() macros device property: Reuse property_entry_free_data() device property: Move property_entry_free_data() upper firmware: Fix up docs referring to FIRMWARE_IN_KERNEL firmware: Drop FIRMWARE_IN_KERNEL Kconfig option USB: serial: keyspan: Drop firmware Kconfig options sysfs: remove DEBUG defines sysfs: use SPDX identifiers drivers: base: add coredump driver ops sysfs: add attribute specification for /sysfs/devices/.../coredump test_firmware: fix missing unlock on error in config_num_requests_store() test_firmware: make local symbol test_fw_config static sysfs: turn WARN() into pr_warn() firmware: Fix a typo in fallback-mechanisms.rst treewide: Use DEVICE_ATTR_WO treewide: Use DEVICE_ATTR_RO treewide: Use DEVICE_ATTR_RW sysfs.h: Use octal permissions component: add debugfs support bus: simple-pm-bus: convert bool SIMPLE_PM_BUS to tristate ...
